A late nineteenth-century edition of Roscoe's life of Pope Leo X, first printed in 1805. Though the work did not win the same critical approval as his life of Lorenzo de' Medici (1795) it nevertheless found a broad readership throughout Europe and the Americas; indeed even the inclusion of the Italian translation in the Index Librorum Prohibitorum did not halt it's circulation within the Papal States.
