Oversewn in original publisher's yellow wrappers, hand-coloured pictorial title label pasted to upper wrapper. Extremities worn, marked, dust-soiled, and creased, loss to spine, short tears to both wrappers, slight loss to lower corner of upper wrapper. Some spotting internally.
A rare survival of a vibrant chapbook retelling, for a juvenile readership, of William Cowper’s (1731-1800) The Diverting History of John Gilpin (1782), a comic ballad concerning the titular draper and his misadventure with a runaway horse.
