A single monthly issue, in original state, of Church of England clergyman and charity school founder William Carus Wilson’s (1792-1859) immensely popular penny periodical The Children's Friend. Begun in 1824, the series appeared concurrently with Wilson’s the Friendly Visitor (established 1819), and the Teacher’s Friend (1844), all of which attained a wide circulation and influence, with upwards of 3,000 copies distributed monthly by 1845.
