The first edition of Burkhard Gotthelf Struve's (1671-1738) numismatic bibliography, the second substantial work on the topic, after Philippe Labbé's (1607-1667) Bibliotheca Bibliothecarum (Paris, 1664).
Struve served as University Librarian at Jena, later becoming head of its Faculty of Philosophy. His scholarly output was prodigious, and he set new standards of methodology in the fields of bibliography and historiography that had deep and wide- ranging effects on both disciplines.
