The first edition of an important, erudite, and finely illustrated work on Jewish sacerdotal costume by sometime professor of theology at Groningen and Orientalist Johannes Braun (1628-1708). In addition to analysing the origins and materials of priestly vestments, the text examines issues relating to ancient textiles and their manufacture, the procurement of precious stones for clothing, and the comparative garments of Roman and pagan priesthoods.
