Rubbed, joints split, later initials 'T.L.' in correction fluid to spine, loss to upper compartment, lower compartment detached (though present), without lettering-piece. Hinges exposed, armorial bookplate of the Rugby School Library to FEP, early manuscript staves, annotations, pen-trials, and ownership inscriptions in at least two distinct English and Latin hands to blank fly-leaves, including those of one Johannis Heyrick and Henry Piffington.
An early seventeenth-century edition of a popular work of philology by Petrus Martinius of Navarre (1530- 1594), that combines the Hebrew and Chaldean grammars, for the use of students at Leiden University. First published in 1590, the book went through numerous editions and translations. The present edition contains additions by Dutch theologian and Orientalist Gulielmus Coddaeus (b. 1575, d. after 1625).
