The first, provincially published edition of a sprawling three-canto poem concerning the travels and yearnings of a romantic German student. A revised and enlarged edition appeared in 1846. Frederick Sheldon was the nom de plume of William Thompson, a perpetually penurious travelling player known throughout Durham and Northumberland. He was the author of The Minstrelsy of the English Border (1847) and History of Berwick-upon-Tweed (1849).
