A Clarendon Press edition, finely bound by Mudie, of Chaucer's complete works, compiled and edited by noted English philologist Walter William Skeat, (1835- 1912). Principally known for his Etymological Dictionary of the English Language (1879-1882), Skeat's interest in etymology and philology led to his prolific translation and commentary on early English literature, including a subsequent edition of Chaucer's Treatise on the Astrolabe, and the still-definitive edition of Ælfric's Lives of Saints.
