Upper hinge exposed, near contemporary inked ownership inscription to FEP, slight loss to margins of leaf b2, scattered spotting.
The first edition of Edward Augustus Kendall's (1775/6-1842) pastoral novel intended to cultivate knowledge and a love of nature in a juvenile readership. The narrative - a blend of natural history and elements of fable and allegory predominantly related by a menagerie of anthropomorphised animals - concerns a young boys failed attempt to raise a swoop of fledgling swallows after he swipes them from their nest.
