The first edition of wood-engraver Thomas Bewick's (1753-1828) supplement to his most enduring publication, the two volumes of land and water birds first printed in 1797 and 1804 respectively. Bewick had by 1821 gathered much new material due to his reading of, amongst other works, Montagu's Ornithological Dictionary - inspiring the compilation of this supplement which adds significantly to earlier editions of the ornithological history.
