New edition.
8vo.
167pp, [1]. With half-title and several in-text engravings. Finely bound by J. Larkins (stamp-signed to verso of FFEP) in nineteenth century gilt-tooled calf, contrasting red and black morocco lettering-pieces, A.E.G., gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers. Lightly rubbed and marked, small split to foot of upper joint, light wear to extremities. Very occasional light pencilled annotations, light scattered spotting.
A handsomely bound copy of the poetical works of Samuel Rogers, including 'The Pleasures of Memory', the discursive poem first printed in 1792 from which he made his name. The titular poem, drawing from and depicting Rogers' own childhood, is touchingly dedicated to his late brother Thomas. Rogers' fame was largely eclipsed by his Romantic contemporaries after his death, but he achieved significant renown amongst his literary contemporaries; upon the death of Wordsworth, he was offered, but declined, the position of Poet Laureate.
