The first edition of Paul Whitehead’s (1710-1774) political verse satire directed against the statesmen who had supplanted Robert Walpole in government, then proved to be equally corrupt. The poem commences with Hogarth (a close friend of the author) calling for his palette to be replenished, in order that he might to paint ‘fresh swarms of fools’.
