The first edition of playwright George Colman's (bap. 1732, d. 1794) five-act comedy, based on Voltaire's L'Écossaise, with an epilogue by David Garrick. More sentimental and moral than Colman's earlier plays, it enjoyed some success, largely because of the character of the plain-spoken, benevolent English merchant, Freeport, created by Richard Yates
