GODWIN, William. Antonio, A Tragedy. In five acts.

New York. Published by D. Longworth, at the Dramatic Repository, Shakspeare-Gallery, 1806.
12mo. 52pp. Uncut. Stitched, as issued. A trifle dusty.
An early American edition of philosopher and novelist William Godwin’s (1756-1836) five-act tragedy, which debuted at Drury Lane 13th December 1800. The play was poorly received by both audience and critics; such was the extent of the embarrassment of the initial performance, essayist Charles Lamb (1775-1834) - who had provided both the prologue and epilogue for the drama (not included in this edition) - immortalised it in his popular memoirs.
