A reissue of the 1730 edition, with the addition of ’Britannia’, second edition corrected, 1730, with separate title page, pagination and register. Contemporary gilt-tooled calf, contrasting red calf lettering-piece. Heavily rubbed, joints split, spine sunned. Early inked ownership inscription to FEP, marginal damp-staining to initial six gatherings.
A reissue of the first collected edition (published earlier the same year) of Scottish poet and playwright James Thomson's (1700-1748) celebrated sentimental blank verse poem. The Seasons were first printed separately, beginning with 'Winter' in 1726.
