A handsomely bound manuscript register of members of state permitted to be admitted into the entry room of St. James's Palace, the then residence - for part of the year - of William IV. The list commences with the Archbishop of Canterbury, then William Howley (1766-1848); continues on to heads of state and senior officers, including the First Lord of the Admiralty and Master of the Mint, then ushers to both the King and Queen, ministers to foreign courts 'when here on leave', 'All other Foreigners on the day of their presentation only', before concluding with 'Wives and Unmarried Daughters of the Cabinet Ministers' and women of the bedchamber.
