A handsome copy, in the original gilt-decorated cloth of a remarkably popular nineteenth-century cookery manual by journalist Christian Isobel Johnstone (1781-1857), collected from her domestic articles originally printed in the Inverness Courier, and first published in book form in 1826 under the pseudonym, taken from a character in Sir Walter Scott's novel St Ronan's Well, Mistress Margaret Dods. Nineteen editions appeared by the close of the century.
