[De l'Imprimerie de Crapelet], An VII [i.e. 1799]
8vo.
In two volumes. xiii, [1], 223, [1]; [4], 243pp, [1]. With half-titles, an engraved portrait frontispiece to Vol. I, and a further 21 engraved plates. Original publisher's pink paper boards, printed paper lettering-pieces to spines. Rubbed, joints starting, spines sunned. Very occasional light spotting. A scarce edition of Voltaire's notoriously bawdy verse parody of the life of French national heroine Joan of Arc, incorporating the risque and erotic plates of the Didot edition of 1795 (though without the borders). First published 1755, it was variously burned, banned and confiscated by governments and religious authorities in Paris, Rome and Geneva.
