Bumpus of Oxford in contemporary gilt-tooled green calf, A.E.G., gilt dentelles. Lightly rubbed and a little marked. Internally clean and crisp. Inked gift inscription to recto of FFEP: 'To Bluey from Clarissa / Nov: 9th 1946'.
A handsomely bound edition of Confucian teachings, bearing an inscription in the hand of prime ministerial consort Clarissa Eden [née Spencer-Churchill] (1920–2021) addressed to Harold Trevor (Bluey) Baker (1877-1960). Baker, politician and warden of Winchester College from 1936 to 1946, was a close friend of her Clarissa's mother and a constant feature in her life. Only after his death would Clarissa learn that Baker was her biological father, and not John Strange (Jack) Spencer-Churchill (1880-1947).
