An attractive edition of Dante Gabriel Rossetti's (1828-1882) Ballads and Sonnets, given to Evelyn Brooke by her father Stopford alongside a collection of Rossetti's Poems. Founder of the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, Rossetti was a favourite of Brooke, who would later publish 'A Study of Clough, Arnold, Rossetti and Morris' in 1908, going so far as to assert that 'there are no love-sonnets in English Literature which in concentrated thought approach those of Shakespeare, except Rossetti’s'.
