8vo. [6], vi, 308pp, [2]. Original publisher's green gilt-tooled half-morocco, marbled paper boards, lettered in gilt to spine. Rubbed, with bumping to corners and chipping to spine. FFEP detached. Inked inscription to FEP: 'Edward Brooke, 11 Herbert Street Dublin - 1880'.
The first edition of Richard S. Brooke's (1802-1882) My Fossils, described in the preface as 'a number of my own compositions in Prose and Verse, which have lain buried...for over twenty years'. Dedicated to his son Stopford Augustus Brooke, 'in remembrance of our long and loving intercourse', this copy was owned by Edward Brooke, Stopford's brother, and a military man. Much of the contents concerns literary history and the Irish landscape.
