SHELLEY, Percy Bysshe. The poetical works of percy bysshe shelley.

London. E. Moxon, Son & Co, 1870.
8vo. In two volumes. [3], clxxix, 504pp, [2]; [1], xiv, [2], 602pp, [2]. Original publisher's green cloth, blind-stamped and lettered in gilt to spine. With engraved portrait frontispiece of the author to Vol. I and a folding facsimile of his handwriting to Vol. II. Rubbed with some splitting to joints, bumping to edges and corners, weakening to hinges. More significant marking to upper board of Vol. I. Pencilled gift inscription to FEP of Vol. I: 'Maud Brooke from Father. Feb 25th/84.' Small annotations in Vol. II to contents page, and further notes to REP, likely in the hand of Stopford Brooke.
A gifted copy of Shelley's (1792-1822) poetical works, edited by William Rossetti (1829-1919). Both Rossetti and Stopford Brooke stood as Chairman of the Shelley Society within their lifetimes, and in gifting these volumes to his daughter, Brooke would inspire within her a similar interest. Small ticks reveal close study of the second volume, with more detailed notes on the back endpaper noting the meaning of several verses.
