Book- label of Simon Nowell-Smith to FEP, tipped-in autograph of the author to title. Light dust- soiling to endpapers, short marginal tear to initial leaf of text.
The first edition, in original boards, of a lesser-known collection of verse by Dorset philologist, mathematician, writer and artist William Barnes (1801-1886). The specification of 'National English' found on the title page demarcates the verse from Barnes' popular Dorset dialect compositions.
