The first edition of an essay on Glasgow Cathedral by local coachbuilder, art collector, councillor and magistrate Archibald McLellan (1795/97-1854), in which he addresses the neglect and poor maintenance of the buildings, and proposes several structural and financial plans of action to facilitate its restoration. First read at Glasgow's Dilettanti Society a year prior, the work highlights McLellan's passion for both his local area and fine art. In his later years, he would develop his skills as an amateur critic and collector of art, with his efforts predominantly recognised after his death - his collection now forms the centrepiece of the Corporation Galleries of Art at Glasgow.
