[4], 294pp, [2]. With a terminal contents leaf. Contemporary gilt-tooled mottled calf, contrasting black morocco lettering-piece. Marbled endpapers. Rubbed and marked, joints split, loss to head of spine. Bookplate of John Trevenen, Rosemarne to FEP, with his inked ownership inscription, addressed 'Trin. Coll. Cambridge', to head of verso of FFEP. Leaves lightly browned, otherwise internally clean and crisp.
The fourth edition of the collected poems of William Mason (1725- 1797), including his first widely praised composition, 'Musaeus: a Monody to the Memory of Mr Pope' (1774). Mason later achieved recognition for a biography of his friend, poet Thomas Gray, which inspired James Boswell to undertake a similar approach in his Life of Samuel Johnson (1791).
