The sole edition of freethinker and philosopher John Toland's (1670-1722) treatise demonstrating how religious conformity contributes to a stable commonwealth. Toland was commissioned to compose the treatise by Lord Treasurer Sidney Godolphin via an intermediary, Quaker leader William Penn.
