A finely bound copy of the Bentley's Standard Novel edition of the popular satirical Orientalist novel by British envoy James Justinian Morier (1782-1849), based on his knowledge of the Qajar dynasty in Iran. The tone, influenced by recent diplomatic struggles between Europe and the Iranian government, is decidedly negative; in response, the Persian ambassador to England allegedly protested its characterisations and 'manner of speaking'.
