A presentation copy, inscribed and corrected by the author, of a manual on nutrition by Rose Murlis Simmonds, pioneering nurse and first vice- President of the British Dietetic Association. Decorated with the Royal Red Cross for her service in France during the Great War, her handbooks and manuals of dietetics introduced ideas as pivotal as weighing food for diabetic patients; her lectures called for the expansion of the teaching of diet therapy in hospitals, creation of diet kitchens, and recycling of food waste to feed hungry patients. Her legacy is remembered today through the British Dietetic Association's most prestigious award, to which she gave her name.
