Physical Geography.
[s.i.].
[s.n.], 1853.
Quarto.
Manuscript on paper. [8] leaves of maps. Pen and black ink, watercolour, over graphite, on wove paper. Contemporary buff wrappers, lettered in manuscript to upper wrapper. Extremities heavily worn and marked.
A remarkable manuscript production, comprising of five leaves of manuscript maps of Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America respectively, and a further three leaves illustrating the highest mountains, and largest lakes and bodies of water from each continent. Intriguingly, the names of countries for each continent are not provided, however, as an explanatory key reveals, figures are provided approximating both a regions population and the size of its standing army, as well as a record of the predominant denomination and form of government; for example, Persia has a population of 9,000,000, a standing army of 100,000 troops, is 'Mahomedan', and is governed by a 'despotic monarchy'.
