The second edition of the final published work of Irish poet William Allingham (1824-1889), written and issued during a period of ailing health shortly before his death the subsequent year. The collection of poetry is typical of Allingham's distinctive, whimsical verse; the contents include a short selection on 'Fairies', which harkens back to his earliest published work, Poems (1850), the source of the oft-quoted supernatural lyric 'The Faeries' famed for its appearance in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971).
