Finely bound by Bumpus (stamp-signed to rear turn-in) in later red crushed morocco, ruled and lettered in gilt, A.E.G. Bookplate of Sybil and Wallace Warner to FEP, scattered spotting, offsetting.
A handsome copy of the first edition of a richly illustrated poetical tour of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, furnished with plates by three of the country's premier engravers: artist and caricaturist Thomas Rowlandson (1757-1827), aquatint engraver John Bluck (fl. 1791-1819), and German émigré Joseph Constantine Stadler (1755-1828).
The three literary contributors, of which two are identified by initials alone, and the third entirely uncredited, are almost certainly architect and artist John Buonarotti Papworth (1775-1847), or 'J.B.', Archdeacon of the East Riding Francis Wrangham (1769-1842), or 'W.', and popular miscellaneous writer William Combe (1742-1823), whose compositions were published unsigned.
