Ode to napoleon buonaparte.
London.
John Murray, 1818.
Thirteenth edition.
8vo.
18pp. Stitched in later grey paper wrappers. Very light spotting.
The thirteenth edition of Byron's Ode to Napoleon Buonaparte, written under the misguided impression that Napoleon had suffered an inglorious fall post-Leipzig. Composed in stages, and first published anonymously, the poem ridicules Napoleon for his failure to achieve a promised great destiny, and expresses disappointment in his decision to abdicate in the face of Europe's disdain.
