The first edition, in fine state, of the complete Pickering & Chatto collection of selected works by English writer and actress Eliza Haywood (c.1693-1756), edited by Alexander Pettit, Professor of English at the University of North Texas, and with a biographical introduction by Christine Blouch, Associate Professor of English at Bradley University in Illinois. The volumes contain precise selections, accompanied by pertinent scholarly analysis, from Haywood's prolific body of work, including multiple periodicals, most significantly The Female Spectator (24 numbers, 1745-1746), considered today to have been the first English periodical produced by women, for women.
